1. What does Creative Birmingham mean to you?
Birmingham is a city that honors and embraces creativity, and I believe that this passion has helped spark the renaissance we are experiencing now. A Creative Birmingham is one where creative professionals can build, collaborate, encourage and sustain great ideas and businesses.
2. What would you like to see happen in Birmingham in the next 5 years?
Birmingham is on an amazing trajectory. The diligence and hard work of many people over many years is coming to fruition. My hope is that Birmingham will continue to be a strong supporter of entrepreneurship, helping to foster an environment where great ideas can be implemented and sustained long term. There has always been a “love of local” throughout our city, and I hope it continues.
3. How did Baking Bandits start? Where did you get the name?
Baking Bandits started at home, teaching my daughters how to bake. I wanted them to grow up in the kitchen and feel comfortable creating beautiful, simple food. We began baking on Sundays, which filled the house with treats. So, we created sweet packages of goodies and left them on our friends’ doorsteps. Everyone wanted a visit from the Bandits.
4. What is your favorite thing to bake?
Tough question! I would say that tarts and pies are some of my favorite things to bake. It always amazes me that a few simple ingredients can turn out so beautifully.
5. How did CO.STARTERS benefit Baking Bandits?
CO.STARTERS was an incredibly beneficial experience. It forces you to answer the tough questions sooner versus later, when the stakes can be much higher. It also takes a unique perspective on business development, addressing the personal and professional aspects of business ownership.
6. We’ve heard rumors that Baking Bandits is going to have a cookie happy hour; what can you tell us about that?
Yes! Cookie happy hour will feature milk and cookie specials and encourage kids and families to enjoy and afternoon treat together. And by kids, I mean kids of all ages.
7. Anything else you would like to add?
I just want to encourage all of us to continue to shop locally. At times that may mean we spend a little more or drive a little farther, but the impact of the investment is exponential.
