School is almost out, but that doesn’t mean your little darlings have to stop learning! There are a myriad of summer camp options in Birmingham, from day camps to sleep aways, and this week we’re highlighting a few summer programs and activities that will get your kids thinking creatively and playing outside the box.
Summer Art Camp at the Birmingham Museum of Art is a fantastic option for your budding artist! They have offerings for kids entering first grade to rising high school seniors, as well as a STEM-based curriculum that centers around their summer exhibit Ways of Seeing Fashion.
Does your little one like to cook? Would you like to introduce a second language into your home? Alabama Language Services is offering a bilingual Italian cooking class for ages 4-13, along with Spanish and Italian courses for adults and older teens.
Set sail for adventure when you sign up for Family Dive Club’s Summer Scuba Camp! Kids aged 6-17 can channel their inner Jacques Cousteau, learn the basics of snorkeling, and even earn their PADI-certified scuba certification. Kid’s Ocean Camp is a fun mix of daily, ocean-related STEM science experiments, crafts, games, songs and activities.
Magic City Seams Jr. is taking over Bib & Tucker Sew-Op’s summer camp! This summer, your camper will experience a week of up-cycled, sustainable sewing projects and learn machine sewing basics along the way. Whether your camper is new to machine sewing or is already filling your house with DIY sewn goods, these projects will fit a variety of skill sets and interests!
For the kids who like to “move it, move it,” consider Alabama Ballet’s summer offerings. Tutus & Tiaras is the program’s introductory camp for ages 4-7. Summer Intensive is a four-week intensive workshop for intermediate and advanced students ages 11–19, and Junior Camp offers a variety of studies for those in-between.
They’ve got the things that make you say, “Ew!” Fresh Air Family’s Gross Out Camp explores the natural world through hands-on learning and focuses on design-thinking, science, and fun! With locations at Vulcan Park, Ruffner Mountain, and Trussville (as well as areas outside of Birmingham), Gross Out Camp guarantees “tired, dirty children who experience real learning!”
