OMBE BUSINESS CERTIFICATION COHORT
The OMBE Business Certification Cohort Program is designed to equip minority business owners with the accountability and technical assistance needed to obtain their Office of Minority Business Enterprise Certification. Getting certified begins with gaining an understanding of the certification criteria and gathering the necessary information and documentation to complete the application.
Running May 8 – June 12, this program provides 6 weeks of in-person accountability and support. Facilitated by Autumn Sanders of Quire Consulting, each session meets Thursdays from 4:00 – 5:00 pm, but participants can expect to spend 2-3 hours a week working on the materials for this cohort. You will write things you know to be true about your venture, find the documents that already exist, and create new documents.

As DEI programs face reductions, the OMBE certification stands as a vital tool for minority-owned businesses to access opportunities, build credibility, and remain competitive in a changing political environment.
Sustained Access to Opportunities: Despite the rollback of certain DEI initiatives, many federal and state programs that support minority-owned businesses remain intact. For instance, the Disadvantaged Business Enterprise (DBE) program, established by Congress in 1983 and reauthorized under the 2021 Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, continues to operate. Changes to such programs would require congressional action, not just executive orders.
Enhanced Credibility and Competitive Edge: In an environment where formal DEI programs are diminishing, an OMBE certification serves as a formal recognition of a business’s minority status. This certification can differentiate a business in competitive markets, signaling to potential clients and partners a commitment to diversity and inclusion.
Alignment with Supplier Diversity Initiatives: Many corporations maintain supplier diversity programs, aiming to include minority-owned businesses in their supply chains. An OMBE certification positions a business to take advantage of these initiatives, which often have set goals for minority business participation. Even as some DEI efforts face cutbacks, supplier diversity remains a priority for many organizations.
Resilience Amid Policy Changes: While the political landscape may shift, certifications like OMBE provide a level of stability and recognition that can help minority-owned businesses navigate changes in policy and funding priorities. They serve as a foundation for advocating continued support and resources, even when broader DEI initiatives are under scrutiny.
