Make plans to shop for a great cause with the Junior League of Birmingham’s (JLB) 17th annual Shop Save & Share fundraiser taking place Wednesday, Sept. 28, through Sunday, Oct. 9! The 12-day event allows patrons to receive 20 percent off and/or exclusive offers at nearly 250 participating businesses with the purchase of a Shop Save & Share card. 100 percent of proceeds from the sale of cards benefit the Junior League’s 21 community projects improving the lives of those in our community. With a goal of benefiting business and Birmingham, the JLB is encouraging patrons to purchase a card and support locally owned businesses while giving back to those in need in more ways than one.

Shop Save & Share features premiere retailers and entertainment venues such as Anthropologie, Vineyard Vines and the Birmingham Zoo, to locally owned boutiques, restaurants and more like Wrapsody, Crestline Bagel, Ashley Mac’s, Avani Rupa Fine Jewelers and Gunn Dermatology, among numerous others. Patrons can purchase the $40 Shop Save & Share card by visiting www.shopsaveandshare.net

In addition to the traditional 20 percent discount provided by most, some retailers may choose to offer a free menu item or other special offer for cardholders instead. For those interested in shopping from the comfort of their home, select retailers will be providing online shopping codes to allow patrons to participate in whatever medium they choose. Cardholders should check the official guide, which will be housed on the website, for details on each retailer and their offer.

Over the past 17 years, Shop Save & Share has raised more than $750,000 for the JLB’s community projects. The JLB’s 21 community projects focus in four impact areas: Safety & Crisis, Education & Culture, Economic Security & Financial Stability and Health & Wellness. Among the 21 partners and programs include the Crisis Centers’ Rape Response Program, the Birmingham Botanical Gardens’ Can You Dig It? Program, the Collat Jewish Family Services’ Senior Grocery Delivery Service, Vineyard Family Services’ Backpack Buddies and the JLB’s Diaper Bank, among others. Just one purchase of a $40 Shop Save & Share card, can help provide the following:

An entire outfit for a survivor of sexual assault who has given their clothes as evidence through the Crisis Center: Rape Response Advocate Program
Two months of weekly food staples and supplies for one student in need through Vineyard Family Services’ Backpack Buddies
One month of diapers for a child in need through the Junior League’s Diaper Bank
Opportunity for six elementary school children to take a field trip to the Birmingham Botanical Gardens through the Birmingham Botanical Gardens’ Can You Dig It? Program

Card sales add up and can provide the following:

13 cards cover the cost of a Sexual Assult Nurse examiner to examine a sexual assault victim
Seven cards pay for holiday cards and postage for seniors who receive meals on wheels
Four cards cover an entire drama workshop for students in the Youth Leadership Forum

We begin with Aesop’s classic fable of the The Tortoise and the Hare but continue the story, which finds them 10 years down the road, now with children of their own and exploring modern-day distractions. Smart phones and video games create a new landscape of lost connections to life experiences.

The Next Gen features Tortoise Junior and Lil’ Hare in a whole new kind of race, where their adventures lead them into unexpected territory. Old Man Tortoise and Big Daddy Hare must come together, despite their differences, to find and save their children and overcome to make it to the finish line.

With dazzling visuals, poignant storytelling and the creative use of music from classical to pop, this production brings this tale into a new and brilliant light. Lightwire Theater had a very successful, well-attended show in the Jemison Concert Hall with “Dino Light’ in 2019.

Performance is suitable for all ages.

The Ghost and Graveyards Driving Tour is our haunted van/bus tour… perfect for those with mobility issues that still want a haunted night out.  We drive you through the night to many sites we usually only talk about.  We view our only Antebellum mansion – Arlington – in the darkness and learn about lost and hidden graveyards, hauntings at our historic theaters and hotels, and enter a historic cemetery to gaze into the shadowy tombs and, perhaps, have something gaze back out at you.

Known for their viral music videos on TikTok and raucous live shows, Floridian feel-good folk band The 502s affectionately refer to themselves as undeniable rays of Florida sunshine. Their new album finds the 6-piece indie folk band reveling in the thrills and joys of living their dreams, yet resilient in the face of heartbreak and relentless upheaval which comes with the passing of time. Led by earnest banjo-strumming songwriter Ed Isola, The 502s are a band of brothers whose sound has received critical acclaim as celebratory, wholesome, and thoroughly life-affirming. The 502s provide the soundtrack for adventure, and that’s exactly the spirit behind the recent viral TikTok trend of their song “Just A Little While”. While the song was released in October 2021 as the lead-off to their album could It Get Better Than This.

It exploded in popularity in December, coinciding with the end of the fall school semester. The band fired up their TikTok one day and saw thousands of videos from college and high school students posting compilations of their school year experiences, all scored by the ebullient chorus of “Just A Little While”. Soon the trend caught on with users of all ages, locations, and backgrounds, with the song appearing in videos of everything from motivational videos to makeup tutorials to globetrotting excursions. The result has been a massive influx of millions of new fans, pushing their streaming numbers through the roof and landing them on Billboard’s Hot Rock and Alternative chart, as well as the#3 spot on Spotify’s Top Viral 50 tracks.

The 502s have grabbed the spotlight overnight, but they’re anything but a flash in the pan. The boys are no strangers to TikTok audiences, following a prior viral moment back in 2020 with a video for their song “Magdalene”. The most recent album is their second full-length, and the band has already traveled on multiple tours across North America and Europe. The 502s’ sound can be described as a combination of the familiar folk-pop singalongs of The Lumineers with the swelling instrumental energy of Paul Simon’sGraceland.Employing banjo, piano, and soprano saxophone as main instruments, the band is full of unexpected surprises and always ready to bring a smile and a shout when they hit the stage.

Adrian Rhodes artwork inhabits a space between immersive, site-specific installation and a traditional understanding of individual pieces. As a medium based on the creation of the multiple, printmaking becomes a method for creating structure. This framework, indulging a desire for order, creates space for disruptions. Her process is an anxiety response, reflecting on an obsessive desire to ruminate on the past loss while preserving present joys.

Broadcast at the Vestavia Hills 10, Lee Branch 15 and Patton Creek 15 theaters.

Twenty-five years have passed since the death of Mother Teresa of Calcutta , sparking a renewed interest in this spiritual giant of the 20th century. Filmed on 5 continents and featuring unprecedented access to both institutional archives and the apostolates of the Missionaries of Charity, this film reveals not just who Mother Teresa was, but how her singular vision to serve Christ in the poor continues to be realized through the Missionaries of Charity today. This is far more than a documentary. It is at once a soaring tribute to a spiritual icon, a powerful witness of authentic Christian charity, and a guidepost for all who seek hope in our turbulent times.

We now have two options of our popular MOVING TOGETHER class for little ones and their favorite grown up! One class is for one-year-olds and a new class is now offered for two-year-olds. Participate together, sharing movement and music activities designed to nurture your little one’s physical and mental development. The class is led by a creative team of dancer and musician and is offered for 6-week sessions throughout the year.

For the two-year-olds who are eager for class on their own, our unique curriculum for young children, Movement-to-Music, offers an imaginative environment to move and explore dance concepts appropriate for each developmental stage. Classes are accompanied by live piano music and run September to May with a special performance on the last day of class in May.

Tuesday 9:15-10:00 for ONE year olds

Wednesday 11:05-11:50 for TWO year olds
