[more+]“Gidget”, Frankie and Annette beach party epics, and Hitchcock psychological suspense thrillers such as “Spellbound” and “Marnie” are given a shotgun marriage. Chicklet Forrest, a teenage tomboy, desperately wants to be part of the surf crowd on Malibu Beach in 1962. One thing getting in her way is her unfortunate tendency towards split personalities. Among them is a black check out girl, an elderly radio talk show hostess, a male model named Steve and the accounting firm of Edelman and Edelman. Her most dangerous alter ego is a sexually voracious vixen named Ann Bowman who has nothing less than world domination on her mind.

[more+]Now in its 6th year, the St. Symeon Food & Culture Fair brings together a sampling of Orthodox Christian culture and homemade foods from the church's ethnically diverse membership. From hot lunch to shopping for later, guests will find a wide variety of different foods created by the congregation's members for this annual open-house event. In addition to church tours throughout the day, the event offers three cultural programs inside the church: a new-for-2024 talk about St. Symeon The New Theologian at 10:30 a.m.; the always highly anticipated choir concert at 11 a.m.; and the popular annual "What is Iconography?" talk at 1 p.m.
The outdoor marketplace tent this year features five booths: the Middle Eastern Market; the Balkan Bakery; Babushka's Kitchen; Southern Sweets & Savories; and Cafe Europa. The booths will have baked goods and other food items as well as art and other gifts. Guests will not want to miss the Opa! Kabana loukoumades tent, where church members will be serving up made-to-order Greek honey puffs (a/k/a Hot Greek Donuts), or the Slavic Tea Room, which offers traditional Slavic tea from a samovar as well as kompot, a traditional Slavic spiced fruit drink.
As always, hot homemade pierogi will be available from the kitchen, as will the large sausage rolls -- hoagie rolls stuffed full of sausage and kraut. Frozen homemade pierogi are also available by the dozen. The bookstore and gift shop will be open inside the church’s fellowship hall as well. There is seating in the fellowship hall and on the grounds for guests to relax and enjoy their food and drink. All are invited to visit St. Symeon for this fun event!
