I Create Birmingham: Janet Simpson
"My writing now is reflective of my life now, and that centers around the norms of adulthood: being a caretaker, a friend, a spouse. I suppose that’s songwriting in your 40s."

“There’s always something so peaceful, mysterious, and romantic about being in the woods or on a river in the middle of nowhere. I try to add those elements to my music.”
“Secret Stages is doing a really good job of getting local/regional/national acts together with crowds here who otherwise might have never heard of and/or gotten see them perform.”
“Fifteen years ago the music scene in Birmingham was practically nothing. A waste land. Now it’s a real scene with cool clubs, and interesting people who are interested in enriching this town, and not moving to Austin or Seattle or LA or New York etc . . . We all owe The Bottletree a big thank you for the fantastic scene that we now enjoy. “
“The release show for my EP was really special too. That show was a lot of fun because there aren’t a whole lot of full on curated electronic nights in Birmingham. People were actually dancing and that can be a hard barrier to break through sometimes.”
