The process of finding the right space for creative work can be frustrating and inefficient. Meanwhile, venues and property owners have limited resources to spend finding new renters. We may just have the solution!
Recently launched and powered by the nonprofit Fractured Atlas, SpaceFinder Birmingham is Create Birmingham’s new online marketplace for arts, design and creative-entrepreneur rental space. Free to list and free to search, it’s essentially a matchmaking site for location managers and space seekers.
Fractured Atlas had a chance to chat with our President, Buddy Palmer, about Create Birmingham, our programming, and what makes Birmingham a great place for artists. You can read that interview here.
Our aims are to help creators spend less time and money hunting for space, and to help venues and property owners increase rental revenue and decrease under-utilized space. Find the perfect spot for your exhibition, performance, pop-up or bricks-and-mortar storefront.
We believe SpaceFinder Birmingham offers a large-scale solution for both venues and renters by matching makers with unused or under-used rehearsal, performance, production and retail space. And it’s a solution for makers and entrepreneurs who are searching for space that’s the right scale for the right time.
If you’re the facility manager or decision-maker for a community institution such as a church or nonprofit organization, SpaceFinder may be a way for you to extend your relationship with your community while earning additional revenue.
If you’re a storefront business such as a bar, restaurant or retailer, you might find a unique arts producer whose concept drives additional business to your establishment.
If you’re the owner of a vacant property, SpaceFinder may be just the ticket to help you bring attention to your space in an unconventional way.
Whether you’re full to capacity with rentals and simply want to market your venue for future use, or you’re looking for a new audience of artists and organizations who may not yet know about your spaces, SpaceFinder Birmingham can help you.
Visitors can easily search for space based on specific schedule, budget, location, capacity and creative needs, and then book via the venue’s preferred method (online, phone or email). Because the tool matches searches based on the renter’s practical needs, creatives can discover viable rental spaces they didn’t know to look for by name.
Create Birmingham constructs avenues for creative pursuit in community spaces, education, and workforce development with generous support from community investors including the Daniel Foundation of Alabama, Vulcan Materials Company Foundation, Protective Life Foundation, Jemison Investment Co., Regions Bank, and the C. Eugene Ireland Foundation. A complete list of our partners can be found here.
