Create Birmingham periodically hosts informal networking forums to bring together constituents from different sectors to brainstorm, debate, and address specific creative industry needs and priorities, while laying the groundwork for future projects and initiatives. The focus and location change for each HUB Talk, and suggestions are always welcome!
Past HUB Talks have included:
HUB: CONTINUING THE CONVERSATION
November 18, 2014
Following our Creative Industries Report launch party, topics included what’s next for Create Birmingham, the programs and projects we are working on, and the steps we are taking to make sure our Creative Birmingham Report is a success. We had great conversation around instilling vision; helping artists, film makers, and entrepreneurs thrive; sharing our success outside of the city; and the future of arts education.
Special thanks to Cahaba Brewing Company for co-hosting the event.
HUB: FILM & MEDIA
March 24, 2015
To support creative sector economic growth, Create Birmingham is investigating policies, incentives, and community infrastructure to strengthen film opportunities in the city. Although tax incentives for film in Alabama are currently not as competitive as those in many other southeastern states, we have made progress in recent legislative sessions. It’s important that we position Birmingham as aggressively as possible, regardless of existing financing disadvantages. Attendees shared their industry experiences, knowledge of strategies that are working in other communities, and their vision for a vibrant Birmingham film industry.
Special thanks to Sidewalk Film Festival and ROJO for co-hosting the event.
HUB: MUSIC INDUSTRY
May 19, 2015
Unless you’re living under a rock, you know that Birmingham’s music scene is percolating. But how does a “scene” become a viable economy with an infrastructure that supports not just the artistry, but the business, of making music? We convened a diverse group of constituents at Birmingham’s newest music venue to discuss the subject of music industry support.
Special thanks to Saturn for co-hosting the event.
