Join Ashley Clarke and Renée Harmon for a mindful walk in nature at Red Mountain Park. Guided by readings from Renée’s memoir, Life Hikes: Walking Through Loss to What Comes After, this experience invites you to slow down and be present through walking meditation, observation, and intentional connection to the natural world.

Participants should wear comfortable layered clothing and be prepared to slowly walk up to 2 miles as part of this experience. If you are uncomfortable sitting on the ground, please bring a towel or a lightweight camp chair.

Ashley Clarke is a certified Mindful Outdoor Guide and yoga teacher in Birmingham, AL. Renée Harmon, MD is a retired physician and author of two memoirs. She also resides in Birmingham, AL.

Accessibility: This program includes walking on a dirt trail with small, loose rocks and roots. There are minimal uphill and downhill changes. There are places
to rest along the way. Portable restrooms are nearby.

Join Vulcan Park & Museum for an engaging and inspiring panel discussion celebrating Alabamians who have shaped their communities through courage, creativity, and conviction. Revolutionary Alabamians: People Who Made a Difference explores how meaningful change happens—not only through protest or politics, but through art, education, public service, and community leadership.

This dynamic conversation will examine personal journeys, pivotal turning points, and the power of local action in a state rich with history and tradition. Panelists will reflect on the challenges and possibilities of progress in Alabama, share insights on inspiring the next generation of changemakers, and offer hopeful visions for the future.

Featured Panelists

Josh Coleman – Author, public servant, and community advocate. Deputy Director of the Office of Social Justice and Racial Equity for the City of Birmingham and President of Central Alabama Pride. Coleman is a leader in advancing equity, inclusion, and joyful community spaces across the state.
Ashley M. Jones – Acclaimed writer, educator, and former Alabama Poet Laureate. The youngest and first person of color to hold the title, Jones uses poetry to explore history, faith, family, and the Black experience in America.
Patricia Todd – Political activist and trailblazer. Alabama’s first openly gay elected official, former member of the Alabama House of Representatives, and lifelong advocate for equality, workers’ rights, and social justice.

Through guided discussion and audience Q&A, this program invites attendees to reflect on Alabama’s past, engage with its present, and imagine its future.

Join certified pilates instructor, wellness educator, and hiking enthusiast Kenyele Harrison for a beginner's level mat pilates class followed by a leisurely group hike featuring minor changes in terrain. Get your body moving while immersing yourself in the natural beauty of Red Mountain Park. All skill levels are welcome!

Please bring a mat for the pilates class, sturdy, closed-toe shoes for the hike, and a water bottle.

Kenyele Harrison is a Certified Pilates Instructor, Wellness Educator, and founder of Kenetic Wellness, a Pilates-based practice centered on mindful movement and whole-body health.  Rooted in a healthcare background, she's devoted her life's work to help others cultivate lasting wellness through purposeful, intuitive movement.

With a comprehensive Pilates certification and advanced training through The Pilates Center in Boulder, Kenyele is committed to expanding access to inclusive health, empowering wellness across the Southeast — reaching even the most rural communities. Her style combines intention with a generous dose of Southern hospitality, motivating clients to “move on purpose” and build the kind of strength that endures for generations. When not guiding a class through an invigorating mat session, she enjoys newlywed life, hikes with her Miniature Schnauzer Brody, and books that feed the soul with both the serious and the silly.

Have you ever wanted to visit Red Mountain Park but are unsure of what to expect? Join Jefferson County Greenways Naturalists to learn more about the park and how to safely and confidently spend time in the great outdoors. We will review how to navigate the park, appropriate attire for outdoor activities, outdoor safety, and how to make the most out of your time in nature. This program will include a guided hike and an opportunity to see some relics from the mountain’s industrial iron-ore mining past. Red Mountain Park 101 is geared towards our community members who are newer to outdoor recreation and is appropriate for all ages. All are welcome!

Accessibility: This family-friendly program includes a guided hike that covers about 1.5 miles. There will be rest stops along the way. The hike will be on a dirt trail with small rocks and roots, featuring small uphill and downhill changes. There are indoor restrooms at the start and end of the hike.

The Bob Sykes BBQ & BLUES Festival presented by City of Bessemer and Coca Cola United is set for April 25, 2026 from 12-6 pm. Gates open at 11am. This event will combine the best blues music and legendary Bob Sykes Bar B Q at the beautiful DeBardeleben Park located in historic downtown Bessemer, Alabama.  Be sure to bring your chair, or blanket and set-up your spot for the day to enjoy talented blues musicians.

Since 2010, the event has been a local favorite for festival goers. Attendees of the festival range from youth to adults. 2nd generation owner and pit master of Bob Sykes Bar B Q Van Sykes says “Each year the festival grows and we couldn’t do it without our sponsors and the support of the community.” City of Bessemer Mayor Kenneth Gulley says "The Bob Sykes BBQ and Blues Festival has been a great event for the City of Bessemer. We're looking forward to many more great years of barbecue and blues music in downtown Bessemer.”

The festival has been chosen for numerous years as one of the top food festivals in Alabama by al.com. There is something to do for the entire family including a large kids corner with activities and games. Children eight and under are free with a ticketed adult. Besides great music and bbq the festival offers a variety of booths including arts and crafts, outdoor exhibits, and a diverse selection of vendors selling tempting offers. General admission tickets can be purchased for $10 at www.bobsykesblues.com or visit Bob Sykes Bar B Q Restaurant.  Day of the festival tickets are $15.

Since the 2010, the festival has provided funding for Alabama local charities including Ady’s Army, The Bessemer Education Enhancement Foundation, Bessemer Service League, Caring Men and Caring Women, Children’s of Alabama Hospital, Clay House,  Community Food Bank of Central Alabama, Hands on Birmingham,  Latch and Live Foundation and  Red Mountain Grace.  The 2026 charity beneficiary is Grace Klein Community. Through FeedBHM, Grace Klein Community rescues surplus food and redistributes meals to individuals and families experiencing food insecurity across the Birmingham area, mobilizing volunteers to serve with dignity. The Bob Sykes BBQ & Blues Festival brings the community together around great food, live music, and practical ways to serve neighbors. Festival attendees are invited to visit the charity table to learn more about how they can get involved.

The 13th Annual celebration of Caribbean culture begins at 11:00am on June 6th with line dancing led by Desi Keith to get everyone warmed up and ready for a day of fun and festivities in DeBardeleben Park and that's just the beginning.  There is live music, live performances,  great food, vendors for your shopping and a children's area.  At 12 noon the crowd favorite, the costume parade kicks off at Alex Brardford Park and makes its way to DeBardeleben Park where the party really gets started.  The vibrant display of costumes, music and revelers is a not to be missed celebration that will have everyone dancing in the street.

The annual event brings attendees in from all over the State of Alabama, Georgia, Tennessee, Florida, New York and Washington DC as well as the Caribbean and is presented under with the full support of the Mayor and City Council of Bessemer.

Central Alabama Caribbean American Organization is a 501c3 nonprofit that was founded in 2011 and has grown into a stable and reliable addition to the cultural  tapestry of  Central Alabama and continues to pursue means to bring the best of the Caribbean to the region.

Join Ashley Clarke for a mindful walk in nature at Red Mountain Park. This experience invites you to slow down and be present through walking meditation, observation, and intentional connection to the natural world.

Participants should wear comfortable layered clothing and be prepared to slowly walk up to 2 miles as part of this experience. If you are uncomfortable sitting on the ground, please bring a towel or lightweight camp chair.

Ashley Clarke is a certified Mindful Outdoor Guide and yoga teacher in Birmingham, AL.

Accessibility: This program includes walking on a dirt trail with small loose rocks and roots. There are minimal uphill and downhill changes. There are places to rest along the way. Portable restrooms are nearby.

Have you ever wanted to visit Red Mountain Park but are unsure of what to expect? Join Jefferson County Greenways Naturalists to learn more about the park and how to safely and confidently spend time in the great outdoors. We will review how to navigate the park, appropriate attire for outdoor activities, outdoor safety, and how to make the most out of your time in nature. This program will include a guided hike and an opportunity to see some relics from the mountain’s industrial iron-ore mining past. Red Mountain Park 101 is geared towards our community members who are newer to outdoor recreation and is appropriate for all ages. All are welcome!

Accessibility: This family-friendly program includes a guided hike that covers about 1.5 miles. There will be rest stops along the way. The hike will be on a dirt trail with small rocks and roots, featuring small uphill and downhill changes. There are indoor restrooms at the start and end of the hike.

The Bob Sykes BBQ & BLUES Festival presented by City of Bessemer and Coca Cola United is set for April 25, 2026 from 12-6 pm. Gates open at 11am. This event will combine the best blues music and legendary Bob Sykes Bar B Q at the beautiful DeBardeleben Park located in historic downtown Bessemer, Alabama.  Be sure to bring your chair, or blanket and set-up your spot for the day to enjoy talented blues musicians.

Since 2010, the event has been a local favorite for festival goers. Attendees of the festival range from youth to adults. 2nd generation owner and pit master of Bob Sykes Bar B Q Van Sykes says “Each year the festival grows and we couldn’t do it without our sponsors and the support of the community.” City of Bessemer Mayor Kenneth Gulley says "The Bob Sykes BBQ and Blues Festival has been a great event for the City of Bessemer. We're looking forward to many more great years of barbecue and blues music in downtown Bessemer.”

The festival has been chosen for numerous years as one of the top food festivals in Alabama by al.com. There is something to do for the entire family including a large kids corner with activities and games. Children eight and under are free with a ticketed adult. Besides great music and bbq the festival offers a variety of booths including arts and crafts, outdoor exhibits, and a diverse selection of vendors selling tempting offers. General admission tickets can be purchased for $10 at www.bobsykesblues.com or visit Bob Sykes Bar B Q Restaurant.  Day of the festival tickets are $15.

Since the 2010, the festival has provided funding for Alabama local charities including Ady’s Army, The Bessemer Education Enhancement Foundation, Bessemer Service League, Caring Men and Caring Women, Children’s of Alabama Hospital, Clay House,  Community Food Bank of Central Alabama, Hands on Birmingham,  Latch and Live Foundation and  Red Mountain Grace.  The 2026 charity beneficiary is Grace Klein Community. Through FeedBHM, Grace Klein Community rescues surplus food and redistributes meals to individuals and families experiencing food insecurity across the Birmingham area, mobilizing volunteers to serve with dignity. The Bob Sykes BBQ & Blues Festival brings the community together around great food, live music, and practical ways to serve neighbors. Festival attendees are invited to visit the charity table to learn more about how they can get involved.

The 13th Annual celebration of Caribbean culture begins at 11:00am on June 6th with line dancing led by Desi Keith to get everyone warmed up and ready for a day of fun and festivities in DeBardeleben Park and that's just the beginning.  There is live music, live performances,  great food, vendors for your shopping and a children's area.  At 12 noon the crowd favorite, the costume parade kicks off at Alex Brardford Park and makes its way to DeBardeleben Park where the party really gets started.  The vibrant display of costumes, music and revelers is a not to be missed celebration that will have everyone dancing in the street.

The annual event brings attendees in from all over the State of Alabama, Georgia, Tennessee, Florida, New York and Washington DC as well as the Caribbean and is presented under with the full support of the Mayor and City Council of Bessemer.

Central Alabama Caribbean American Organization is a 501c3 nonprofit that was founded in 2011 and has grown into a stable and reliable addition to the cultural  tapestry of  Central Alabama and continues to pursue means to bring the best of the Caribbean to the region.
