In its eighth year, The Michael Conway Annual Display of The AIDS Memorial Quilt serves as a space for reflection, healing, and education by honoring those we've lost to AIDS in Alabama and the Southeast. The display is named in memory of Michael Conway, beloved son of long time member of the congregation, Jan Conway.

Thank you to our sponsors who help to make this exhibit possible: Avondale United Methodist Church, Central Alabama Pride, Covenant Community Church, Pilgrim United Church of Christ, and Prism United!

About The Quilt: The National AIDS Memorial Quilt initiated by the NAMES Project in 1985, stands as a powerful symbol of love and loss. It contains 48,000 panels, making it the largest community art project in the world. It has been displayed at many locations globally, most notably on the National Mall in Washington DC where it covered 1.3 million square feet, representing the enormity of the AIDS crisis and spurring the US government to action. Each panel of the quilt is created by loved ones, friends, and family members of those lost to the AIDS epidemic and includes personal messages, artwork, and mementos that reflect the life of the person being remembered.

AIDS in Birmingham: As of 2021, Alabama has had over 14,000 reported cases of HIV/AIDS since the beginning of the epidemic, with approximately 8,000 individuals currently living with HIV/AIDS in the state.

Join us as we recommit ourselves to the fight against HIV/AIDS stigma, discrimination, and misinformation.

All are welcome!

Great care goes into creating a fun and safe environment. We work hard to hire staff of the highest integrity and personal and spiritual maturity, and are enthusiastic about camp. All staff are thoroughly screened and background checked and receive training in first aid, CPR, safety and child abuse prevention, character building, and program implementation. You can depend on the Y to ensure camp is well supervised. Summer Camp seems far off, but it will be here before you know it. We hope you and your family will join us and help make it their best summer ever. Our camp day is built on an open programming model where campers will experience daily opportunities to select which games, crafts, or activities they participate in. Not only will they get to follow their own interests, but they’ll make their own path throughout the summer. There will be organized events and large group games outside the regular open programming periods. Each week, different fun opportunities will come to our camps. Being part of our summer day camp program goes beyond silly songs and games. Camp is about learning who you are, becoming what you want to be, developing new skills and healthy habits, reaching goals, and building relationships. Our summer day camp helps kids gain self-confidence, build character, and focus on the whole child in spirit, mind, and body.
