CREATE IS FOR THE CREATORS. BUILDERS. CULTURE. CITY.

Creative work should be able to support a real livelihood. Create Birmingham helps artists, designers, makers, and cultural producers turn ideas into sustainable careers by offering business education, funding opportunities, and access to markets. The goal is to ensure creative talent in Birmingham has the tools, knowledge, and support needed to grow, adapt, and thrive long-term.

Art and culture belong in neighborhoods, not just institutions. This work supports community-based artists and organizations, funds local projects, and helps creative activity show up in shared spaces across Birmingham. By centering local voices and lived experience, it strengthens connection, visibility, and civic pride through the arts.

Stories shape how a city is seen—and who gets to tell them matters. This work supports filmmakers at every level, helps grow a skilled local workforce, and attracts film and television productions to Birmingham. By investing in people, infrastructure, and opportunity, we’re building a film ecosystem that benefits both local creatives and the broader economy.

UPCOMING PROGRAMS: Creative Communities
hosted by Erica Chisolm

In 2026 Create Birmingham will partner with City of Birmingham’s Department of Community Development on Creative Communities, a year long initiative designed to equip Birmingham-based artists, creative entrepreneurs, and nonprofit leaders with the skills, tools, and real-world experience needed to compete for and successfully execute municipal contracts and community development projects. By intentionally integrating creative entrepreneurship  with targeted creative placemaking, this program aims to strengthen the local creative ecosystem while advancing equitable, community-driven solutions to challenges facing under-resourced neighborhoods.
